Where do babies come from?

Where do babies come from? How do they start to grow? What happens inside Mummy’s tummy? And how are they born?

In this workshop, children learn in a simple, age-appropriate way how pregnancy begins, how a baby develops in the uterus and how it is born. Using educational materials, we introduce the basics of reproduction, eggs and sperm, pregnancy and birth.

The workshop also places great emphasis on children’s questions, in a supportive environment where everyone can express themselves freely, share what they know and receive appropriate, open answers.

The aim is to help children better understand their own bodies, how a baby develops and the different stages of birth, with information tailored to their age and level of understanding.

My body is mine!

Our workshop, ‘My Body Belongs to Me!’, aims to encourage children to listen to their intuition, to understand that there are physical boundaries, and to ask for help when those boundaries have been crossed.

The workshop consists of three parts:

  • A round-table discussion during which the children can express their feelings using emotion cards;
  • A main activity, which involves sticking green and red stickers around the outline of a person that we draw on a sheet of paper, to visualise the boundaries of their bodies;
  • To conclude, we look at a book with the children that summarises what we have covered so far, and the children are gradually encouraged to say ‘No’ very loudly.

The objectives of this workshop are the following:

  • to recognise and express the boundaries of my own body;
  • to respect other people’s boundaries;
  • to recognise and express my feelings;
  • to name the parts of my body correctly;
  • understand what the terms ‘private’ and ‘intimate’ mean;
  • know who is allowed to touch my private parts and under what circumstances;
  • know who I can ask for help, and who my trusted adults are;
  • be able to say ‘no’.
