Engineering Trainee Days

IMPORTANT: STUDENTS MUST REGISTER INDIVIDUALLY FOR THIS OPPORTUNITY!

This programme aims to promote careers in engineering and science by giving pupils an insight into the day-to-day work, as well as the professional, linguistic and interpersonal requirements of an engineer or scientist.

The experience gained by pupils differs fundamentally from a company visit, as during the Engineering Trainee Days, pupils shadow their placement supervisor in their professional role for two days.

Pupils must be at least 16 years old and be in at least the third year of mainstream or general secondary education.

Date: in March each year.

• distinguent besoin d’accès, trajet et mode de déplacement ;
• repèrent les personnes concernées, les contraintes, les dépendances et les inconnues ;
• différencient faits, hypothèses, valeurs, intérêts, incertitudes et décisions ;
• comparent trois réponses selon quatre critères non compensables : accessibilité et justice ; énergie, matière et espace ; faisabilité et maintenance ; autonomie et sécurité ;

Job Shadow Day

IMPORTANT: STUDENTS HAVE TO REGISTER INDIVIDUALLY FOR THIS OFFER!

Job Shadow Day allows students, aged 16 and over, to accompany a company manager (or department head) or his/her representative during a working day.

The experience differs from a simple company visit, as the students can observe a manager performing the daily tasks of his/her job for a whole day. In this way, students get an idea of the responsibilities of a company manager and gain important impressions of working life.

Job Shadow Day aims to transmit to the students:

  • the relevance of a good school education: students realise how their school knowledge and skills help them in working life;
  • the requirements of the labour market (profiles and skills needed)
    an overview of the responsibilities of a business leader;
  • the meaning and importance of teamwork
  • an overview of the different career paths;
  • the desire to be an entrepreneur

Period: in March every year.

HelloFuture in secondary schools

As part of the HelloFuture project, we offer presentations to secondary school classes, with the aim of raising young people’s awareness of technical and scientific careers and the various sectors within industry in Luxembourg.

  • A presentation generally lasts the same length as a lesson (45–50 mins). Depending on the school’s request, we can adapt the duration to longer formats.
  • The presentations are delivered jointly by FEDIL staff and representatives from companies that are members of FEDIL. The first part (10 mins) provides an introduction to the topic, including a brief history of industry in Luxembourg, some key figures and an overview of the main sectors of activity. The types of jobs are also discussed. The main part of the presentation is devoted to real-world experiences shared by a representative from an industrial company. Our speakers will be on hand to answer pupils’ questions on topics covered by the industry, the specific nature of the jobs and training programmes, as well as career opportunities. Depending on the nature of the participating company and the speaker’s profile, the focus may vary from one presentation to another: required skills, career paths, R&D activities, environment and sustainability, logistics, international operations, etc.
  • The presentations are primarily aimed at 4e and 3e classes of the classical secondary education (ESC) and general secondary education (ESG). However, they can be adapted to meet the specific requirements of individual secondary schools. This HelloFuture presentation can serve as a stand-alone lesson (at a teacher’s request) or be incorporated into a school project (e.g. careers day, etc.). As such, it is also possible to bring several classes together for a single presentation.
  • Ideally, the topic covered – namely the role and importance of industry in Luxembourg – will have been addressed by the teachers during their regular lessons. Preparing pupils on the subject beforehand may increase their engagement during the presentation and thus enhance the impact of the session.

Presentation of the Luxemburgish Armed Forces

The members of the Recruitement & Information Office from the Luxemburgish Armed Forces is offering to visit your school to introduce the Luxembourg Armed Forces through a presentation lasting approximately 45 minutes.

The aim of this presentation is to provide your students with the informations allowing them to better understand the role of an army in an international context, as well as to introduce them to the diversity of specialisations within the Luxembourg Armed Forces itself.

The effort to raise awareness of those missions is essential to give them a comprehensive understanding of the defence system of our country, Europe and NATO.

Depending on your students profiles and their interest in a career within the Luxembourg Armed Forces, our team can outline the career opportunities available to them.

The Luxembourg Armed Forces regroups more than 115 different job opportunities, military & civil careers. In recent years, the Luxembourg Armed Forces have undergone a deep transformation in order to meet the increasing demands of our futur missions. The result has been a diversification of our career opportunities.

From volunteer soldiers and corporals through non-commissioned officers and officers, we offer career paths adapted to all levels of education. All of our careers come with specific training up until university-level studies.

To round off our presentation and tailor our visit to the needs of your students or your teaching programme, we suggest complementing our visit with a workshop from our catalogue. This catalogue regroups several options, reflecting the variety of activities within the Luxembourg Armed Forces.

They are prepared and led by our specialists. The organisation of such a workshop is subject to the availability of the relevant departments.
